2.1. Requirements

For the installation of a LiveConfig server you need:

  • root access at the server to be installed (via console or SSH)

  • about 30 MB free disk space

  • a current web browser

You do not need any special software libraries, particulary no PHP, Apache httpd or MySQL. LiveConfig only needs the C runtime library (libc) which is installed by default.

If the server being installed is protected by a firewall, the following ports have to be configured to allow incoming connections:

  • TCP port 8443 (for HTTPS access)

  • optional: TCP port 788 (if LiveConfig clients shall connect to this server)

  • optional: TCP port 8080 (if you want to allow unencrypted access via HTTP)

The port settings can be changed arbitrarily in the configuration file (see and ).

To limit the disk space for particular webspaces, file system quota must be enabled. Install the package quota and enable group quota for the file system mounted at /var/www/ (respectively /srv/www/ on OpenSUSE).

You can check with repquota -ag if group quota is successfully enabled:

#> repquota -ag
*** Report for group quotas on device /dev/disk/by-uuid/[...]
Block grace time: 7days; Inode grace time: 7days
                        Block limits File limits
Group used soft hard grace used soft hard grace

root -- 1203900 0 0 51406 0 0
[...]

LiveConfig also works without quota system, but then no webspace limits can be enforced and informations on the number and size of customers' files can't be displayed.
